When a Standard Wix SiteIsn't Enough
Most businesses are well served by a normal Wix site. Some aren't — because the design has to be exact at every screen size, because there's a lot of content behind it, or because the site has to be fast and flexible in ways a template can't be. Wix has two answers for that, and I work in both.
Wix Studio
Wix's professional editor. Same company, same underlying platform, a much more precise set of tools.
Layouts that hold up everywhere
Designed once against a proper breakpoint structure rather than adjusted screen by screen after the fact. Fixing a Studio site built without that plan is the most common Studio job I'm handed, and it's usually structural.
Pages generated from data
A hundred product pages, location pages or team profiles from one design, driven by a database instead of built by hand — so a change to the design changes all of them.
Wix Headless
Headless means splitting the site in two. Wix keeps doing what it's good at behind the scenes — content, bookings, store, members, data — while the part visitors see is built separately in modern web code and hosted wherever you like. I build these in Astro.
Speed
Pages are built in advance and served as plain files, which is about as fast as the web gets.
Search and AI visibility
The content is in the page itself, so search engines and AI assistants read it without having to run anything first. That's the opposite end of the problem I write about with AI-built apps.
What flexibility costs you
Headless isn't free. Someone has to maintain the front end, and that someone is a developer rather than you in an editor. Your team keeps managing content in the Wix dashboard they already know, but the public site becomes code. This is the right answer for a minority of projects, and I'll tell you honestly if you're not in it.

I'd rather put you on the simplest thing that does the job. The bill for over-engineering a website doesn't arrive at launch — it arrives every time you want to change something.

Is Wix Studio a different company from Wix?
No. Same platform, professional-grade editor. Your site still runs on Wix and your dashboard works the way you'd expect.
Can I move my existing Wix site to Studio?
Not by flipping a switch — it's a rebuild, though your content comes with you. Worth it when you're hitting real limits, not for its own sake.
Does Headless mean I lose the Wix dashboard?
No, and that's the point. Bookings, store, blog, members and CMS all keep working exactly as they do now. Only the public-facing site is rebuilt.
Is Headless better for SEO?
It removes a whole category of problem, because your content is in the page before anything runs. It doesn't write your content or earn your links. A strong foundation, not an outcome.
Who maintains it afterwards?
Me, or a developer of your choosing. It's standard code in your repository — you're not locked to me.
